Avoiding the Number Four

Four is quietly avoided in Chinese-Filipino households because the word sounds like death in Hokkien and Mandarin. Some buildings skip the fourth floor entirely. Others take the opposite view and play it deliberately, on the logic that a feared number is an underplayed one.
