Usog — A Stranger's Greeting

When a stranger admires a baby too warmly, the child may fall ill from usog. The greeting is neutralised by saying pwera usog, or by the visitor dabbing saliva on the baby's forehead. Mothers say it reflexively, without breaking conversation.
